The Jabulani Jiggy

It’s the first time both former finalist were knocked out at the group stages. France and Italy met in the final last World Cup and this year it looks like they will be meeting at the airport. So the group phase of the World Cup is over and boy oh boy were there a few surprises. So what happened exactly?

My assumption is bad planning on their part combined with perhaps a little over confidence. However we cannot set aside the reality that this whole World Cup generally has produced more than a few upsets.

The reality that the ball usually tends to end up in the stands most of time instead of in the net and with the exception of a few matches most of the fixtures ended in draws or low scoring outcomes, the question is has the Jabulani ball thrown a wrench into the cogs to World Cup soccer?

Apparently not as heavy as most other footballs it could be the reason why this particular World Cup is so hard to predict. Several players and goalies have complained that the ball swerves awkwardly and its movement is erratic. Just ask Robert Green.

So between the Vuvuzelas, The Jabulani and all the upsets I can’t wait for the knock out stages. One thing I will say however is the fact that this world cup is so much more entertaining than previous ones. The fever has spread to even those who wouldn’t normally like football and even Youtube has added a button that mimics the Vuvuzela noise.
