Golf In Any Weather

Golf is a sport that is typically associated with good weather and summer. Think about it, whenever you see a golf tournament on television, it is being played in mild weather. Since the sport is played outdoors, it is understandable that inclement weather might be a deterrent to the game. But this does not always have to be the case.

A good way to cut the costs of the game is to play in the off-season. Many golf courses charge less if you want to play golf in the early spring, late fall, or winter months. Typically, most people play during the late spring and summer months, so many golf courses find themselves with open t-times in the off season. To entice players onto the course, they often charge less for play during the off season.

There is an additional advantage to playing off season. In addition to cost savings, there is a time savings as well. There are many fewer people on the course which means that there will be fewer people holding you up, and fewer people who want to play through because you are holding them up. Most people find that playing golf at your own pace is a much more enjoyable pastime.

Playing golf when the wind is up, or there is a slight drizzle can help to improve your game. It can help you to understand wind better, and understanding wind can help you keep your ball out of the rough.

Winter is no longer out of reach for golf fans. Many courses are open year round. You can buy fluorescent golf balls which make playing in the snow a possibility. Of course, you will have to consider the weather conditions and dress appropriately. But winter parkas are no longer bulky affairs which constrict your movement.

Night-time play is also available at many golf courses. The courses are lighted, but it is still a good idea to buy glow-in-the-dark golf balls to aid in finding your golf balls. You might also consider getting a ball locator. These things are available at most pro shops or sporting goods stores.

If you decide that playing golf for less is important to you and you want to consider playing during inclement weather, then you need to prepare adequately. Dress for the weather, and bring in layers. A flashlight is something you want to have along if you will be night-golfing. Just make sure to get off the course in the event of lightning. A little rain is fine, but lightning can be deadly.

Playing golf on a beautiful day can be an enjoyable way to pass the time. But playing when the weather is less than ideal can get you out year round, and can save you a bit of money at the same time.
